Heath Hart was probably one of the better, if not best, professors I've had. He makes examples that are real world applicable so that you are able to understand it on a better level. He is very organized and posts his notes for classes online at the beginning of the semester (mostly), which makes being prepared and following along that much easier.

The homeworks were fairly straightforward, and right out of the book, which is also where he gets the examples for the notes. He didn't grade for it being correct, just for having attempted it.

Quizzes were done every Thursday (in a Tues/Thurs class) during the last 20 minutes of class. Usually 6-7 problems going over the past week's worth of material. A few multiple choice, a few word problems.

If you show up to class with the notes in hand, follow along with the lectures, and turn in your homeworks, you'll do fine on the quizzes and on the final.

Great teacher - knows the material very well and explained things in a "different" way (that's a good thing, btw). The class itself is a pain and seems very disorganized, but that's not his fault and he does the best he can. I got an A in the class, but much of the material has already gone out of my head because of the way the quizzes/testing are set up. Still, Hart is the best option for this class, take him over Greenberg.

Professor Hart is the man. He conveys the sometimes complicated math topics of vector geometry (and DiffEQ if you have to take that too) extremely well. As of 2009-2010, he is the best option for math classes (I know he teaches atleast 1224 and 2214). Sure, if you hate math you probably won't enjoy vector or DiffEQ, but he is the best teacher available.

i had hart for vector geometry in fall 09, he's a great teacher. not only did i just learn the material but he explains ways to solve problems in a way i've never been taught before which reinforced a lot of the material in the course because in high school i would just be given a simple formula and not know why i have to. definitely get him for vector geometry, his notes are verbatim of the quizzes. hes a great teacher the only downside is that you have to attend recitations which suck...i got a B+ in the class but that's because i didn't take the 3rd test and got a 0 due to a transportation issue and wasn't able to make it to the empo on that day. but i had a whole week to do it so i had no excuse. what i'm saying is don't procrastinate!

One of the best math professors here at VT. I got and A in his diff eq class. Prof Hart is jovial and fun, and his class is an easy A if you simply study and pay attention. He throws no curveballs at you.

He gives NO IN CLASS TESTS. He gives you weekly quizzes that all get added together in the end that simulalate having a portion of your grade being tests. And where do the quiz questions come from? Straight from his lecture examples he gives (and solves) in class. Sometimes he even tells you exactly which questions will be on there.

The reason he is a good teacher--he cares about learning, not grades. He tells you what he'll quiz you on, he slows down class if you don't understand, he'll solve anything you can't on your own...and on and on.

Great professor. And he is funny. Go to class + study examples before quiz days = automatic A.

Hart by far has been the best math professor that I have had at Tech, and I've had more than I've wanted. He always had good notes, and worked many many examples to make sure the material was clear. A lot of my peers thought he moved too slow, but he was able to cover all the material on the syllabus and still keep the class together. He posted excellent notes, and followed them closely, working extra examples as he saw need to. I took Calc in high school but didn't take the transfer credit, and taking Calc 1 with him gave me a solid foundation in Calc while also giving me a good start to my GPA. Over all I would recommend Hart highly.

Heath was an amazing prof, I wish he could teach all of my math classes. He always posted excellent notes with good examples. He was always respectful and by about the second or third week knew everyone by name. His grading was more than fair and he always conducted class in a very organized fashion. All in all an excellent prof and overall great guy.

I had Heath for Applied Combanitorics (MATH 3134) this past Summer Semester II 2007. It was the best summer class I ever took. I thought that the material would be super hard judging by the class name however it ended up being my favorite math class ever taken thanks to Heath. I highly recommend him during the summer at least (since I don't know what he's like during the regular year). He was very friendly to everyone and would spend any amount of time helping you learn anything.

Heath was a great teacher, I would highly recommend him! He made the subject matter relevant and easy to understand, and was always very fair in his grading. His review sessions were great, they really helped me to prepare for what was on the tests. This course was fairly easy for me since I took AP Calc in high school, it's mostly a review but really helped to reinforce the material.

Professor Hart was one of my favorite teachers so far. He taught pretty well and he explained things even better at review sessions. If you do your homework andpay attention in class then you'll get at least a b.
